Buick dealers in Naples excited about sponsoring youth service documentary

A college student of mine commented a few months ago that if every high school student had to participate in mandatory public service we could eliminate most vandalism and a lot of crime. Not to mention have cleaner, more beautiful communities and citizens who might develop a heart for helping others.

Well, that's kind of the aim of Slant 45: The Movie, sponsored by General Motors and Cadillac, and geared toward getting public school children involved in public service projects. We've all heard it said that people will support that which they help create. What a great message to send out youth.

The movie is a full-length documentary and part of the Super Bowl XLV organizing campaign. Buick dealers in Naples are excited about the movement this movie could spur. The sponsorship was announced by GM officials and the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee, in part, to help showcase the sporty new Cadillac model CTS Coupe.

The CTS-V is the first coupe to be produced by Cadillac in quite some time. It boasts a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 556 horsepower. This two-door luxury coupe was driven by dealers during the event.

Naples used cars buyers will want to check out this movie by award-winning film maker Mark Birnbaum. It will preview in January in Plano, Texas. Other sponsors are being announced and will help cover the cost of the $ 1.5 million budget for Slant 45. So far sponsors announced include Bank of America and the Ted and Shannon Skokos Foundation.

Students are already getting involved in the project, with more than 13,000 in 42 area schools working to clean up neighborhoods and collecting items for the homeless. "We hope to get 20,000 kids involved by the time the Super Bowl rolls around," said Nancy Webb from Big Thought, a nonprofit educational organization overseeing the Slant 45 program.

Customers of Buick dealers in Naples who would like to see similar programs begin in their own communities should contact local youth organizations or school administrators. In many cases, such programs take mostly organization and time and have little overhead cost.

Part of the Texas-based program includes art exhibits created by the youth. They will be shown in four locations around the Dallas area. The Slant 45 movie and youth service project is being promoted by many, including Everson Walls and Jay Novacek, former Dallas Cowboys players.
